EVALUATION -

Overall I have enjoyed this project hugely. I feel that I have leaned many new techniques and have expanded my knowledge on both the Queen Elizabethan era and makeup behind the period of time. As a whole I felt my design came out successful as it is modern yet still has many symbolism of the era such as the pale face and eyebrows however if I was to do this project again I would branch out and explore more ways to make my design much more intriguing, eye catching and much more fascinating to look at by including some white lace eye lases or diamonds onto the face. When it came to my partners design I felt that my skills wern't shown of to their full potential as the design was simple and didn't have a lot going on and what was on didn't turn out as successful as I would have wanted. When going onto the next project I feel that I should do a lot more research into the makeup and expand my inspiration. For the next term I would like to design much more fascinating creations that are much more eye-catching , striking, dramatic and would catch the viewers attention much more. I would like to be much more confident creating designs and applying the makeup, not be afraid of how ridiculous the final outcome could turn out and just explore with props much more.
FINAL ASSESSMENT IMAGES AND REFLECTION -

My partners design applied by myself to my partner -

Here is the final outcome of my partners design applied by myself. I love the way the outcome has came out overall however feel that i could have improved the blocking of the eyebrows and made the white eye shadow stand out much more however i feel that i have blended the two colours of the eyes and skin well as the colours change gradually and there are no harsh lines. I feel that this design was simple and couldnt show of my skills to my full potential as the design was very minimum.

FINAL ASSESSMENT IMAGES AND REFLECTION -

Within the photographs below is the final makeup look from our assessment where my design has been created on myself by my partner. I felt myself and partner worked well together as a team as we kept each other up to date whenever we had any changes of the design and had good communication when describing just how we wanted each area of the face to turn out like. I feel the development from the practice session in class time and out in our spare time my partner has achieved the look i wanted. She has improved on the eyebrows giving them more of a lift and shape. The eye makeup has become much more bold however we had difficulty preventing any creases forming whenever i blinked. The cheeks could has been toned down a lot so the look doesn't look too over powering to the viewer and the lips staying simple and toned down drawing attention to the main focus of the top half of the face.

Practice session of applying my partners makeup design -

This was the final outcome of my partners design. Instead of having a dead white skin base she wanted the base to look much more natural by mixing it with the lightest colour of foundation to give it more of  a pale skin colored look. For the eyes my partner (Rebekah) wanted the eye shadow around the eyes to be white and pale however blending softly and gradually outwards towards the edges of the face forming to big bright eyes above the eyebrow, under the eye and towards the nose. This was quite difficult at first to blend however found it much easier using a sponge to help the blending appear much more softer and gradient.

As you can see on the lips their is a shape of a heart appeared on the center with gold lining the top line of the hearts to help bring out the shape.

The cheeks have soft contouring highlighting the natural cheek bone.

I loved the way this design hs came out however could have had something a lot more eye capturing to it by using some  white false eye lashes or diamonds onto the eyes.

Practice session of my design created on myself by my partner -

Here is my design. Instead of blocking out the eyebrows i have decided to change the colour to orange as ginger/red hair was popular within the Elizabethan era. I asked my model to give them a lift so the coloring has been placed slightly above where my original eyebrow would be and the shaping has been more rounded. For the eyes i have used the same two colours of black and gold as i did in my first experimentation however have made my look much more modern and exiting by creating a thick line using masking tape to sharpen the flicks and have thickened the liner to draw attention. Instead of blending gold i have decided to use gold into the crease going towards the brow, this helps the black from the liner stand out much more. The white base from the Elizabethan ere has been included as this was one of the key symbolism's as was used in Queen Elizabeth portraits and as she set of the trend due to her scars from small pox. The lips i have left quite simple with a subtle red as i didn't want too much going on especially as the eyes were dramatic. For the cheeks i have contoured the cheek bones bringing out the natural shadows to bring out the natural shape of the cheek and jaw bone.

Experimenting with designing -

Here was my very first design experimentation done on a class member.

For the eyes i have chosen two main colors - black and gold. I have placed gold into the tear duct of the eye and around the whole of the lid of the eye. I have then went onto shading the black into the outer corner and crease to give of a much more dramatic effect. Lastly i have filled in the eyebrows to help define the eyes and bring out the black from the shading. If i were to do this design for my final assessment i would include some eye catching bold black lace lashes to draw attention to the eyes therefore making my design much more contemporary.

Within this design i decided to use the Elizabethan pale face of the white lead and vinegar however using skin base and the white paint from the aqua pallet to create the pale base. For the cheeks i have added a coral coloured blush on the cheek bones forming a circular shape onto the cheeks.

Drawing a 3d object with shading.

Although i am not the best at drawing or art. I have tried my best to create an apple with shading. I have done it so the face hits directly on top of the apple creating a shadow around the outside and around the side. I found this task challenging as drawing does not come naturally however i have gained knowledge and understanding of shading and the placement of highlights and shadows.

INTRODUCTION TO DRAWING

Drawing a variety of different lines, circles, squares, triangles and shading and 3d objects with Kat

Within this lesson we learn how to draw lines that become parallel , shapes and creating shades using a different thickness of pencil. 6B - 5H. This will show you which pencil would be best to create what texture you want on your design.

Pinterest Board -

http://uk.pinterest.com/acarey24/elizabethan-era/

Whilst doing A- level photography at college i found it very useful to create a pinterest board before designing to get inspired and have an idea of what i like and dislike. I find by doing this helps me when designing as i have a rough idea of what my design would look like in my head.

My self portrait -

Here is my self portrait. For this task we were asked to take a selfie about us. I have included a variety of objects within my photograph about my life and symbolism of how i would like my future to be.

Item number one - Medal

I decided that i would include an object of a medal as it symbolizes luck and success. I would like to become very successful in both my future and career. I would like to own my own business in events managements performing hair and makeup designs to clients such as brides, proms, party's or anniversary's. I feel that also being successful in your life you have to be happy and enjoy everything you do.

Item number two - Family photograph

I decided to include a photograph of my siblings ( and older brother and a twin sister).  My family had a huge impact on mu life and i had a fantastic up bringing and would my own children to have the same. Having a twin sister made me realize that i was enthusiastic when it came to everything beauty as i would use her as a model on a regular basis. Experimenting with crazy and wild makeup styles and hair designs

Item number three - mask

I feel that i am quite fashionable and i would like to be stylish and up to date with the latest fashion trends growing up.

Item number four - heel

Included in the photograph above i decided to include a heel as i am the typical teenager who loves to party and have a good time. Don't let others bring you down and just have the time of your life. Spend time with family friends and create memories.

Item number five - Foreign money

I would absolutely love to travel around the world before or after i start a family. Experience all of the different cultures and food.

Item number six - Makeup bag

I decided to include the makeup bag as it is what i am interested in currently. Taking a course i am passionate about and creating and experimenting with different styles, brushes and techniques with both hair and makeup.

Margot Fonteyn

Dame Margot Fonteyn de Arias born 18th May 1919 - 21st Febuary 1991 was a ballerina based in England. She is one of the greatest known classical ballerinas of all time spending most of her career as a dancer for The Royal Ballet leading her to be named in Prima Ballerina Assoluta ( an honour for exceptional ballerinas) of the company by Queen Elizabeth the Second.

As you can see within the photograph above of Margot her hair and makeup signifies the Elizabethan era. For example her hair has been removed out of the way from her forehead making the forehead appear much more taller. The head piece also reminds us of the ones Queen Elizabeth wore in her portraits. The ones in the images above includes feathers and jewels. Jeweled head pieces were very popular within the elizabethan era and can be seen on Queen Elizabeth in a mixture of her famous portraits.

The danger dress -

 photo scf_zps34b78f94.jpg

Within these images your eyes are drawn towards the model within the white dress. I feel this image signifies calmness and purity due to the two main colours of white and blue. The light has shone onto the model directly at the center of her face and body capturing and making the dress eye catching and showing us the main focus point of the photograph. The makeup has been kept simple and natural with a natural lip colour instead of something bold and bright. The cheeks has got very little coloring onto them leaving them natural and plain. With the eyes the makeup has been kept to natural brown colours with winged and bold eyeliner. The hair has been lightly curled and left pure, relaxed and slightly messy. Within both images the model is looking directly at the camera capturing the viewers attention. The photographer has chosen a location where the sunshine hits directly onto the wall at a certain time of the day. The vibe of this image is content and peaceful making the viewer feel that buying/wearing the dress and shoes will bring you happiness and will make you beam in the sun.

Within this film it shows the early years of her reign, the difficulties she faced to become a monarch and her romance difficulties.

Cate Blanchett is an Australian actress who played Queen Elizabeth. Cate Blanchett won a globe winning first academy award for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth at the age of 29 years old. I enjoyed this film as i felt it helped me understand what the virgin queen went through and the troubles, difficulties and how she was challenged in her life. I felt this film kept you at the edge of your seat and was very exiting and engaging as you were always at suspense and questioning what was going to happen next. Her portrayal was fairly fictional however showed us her triumphs ,successes, love and loss.

Portrayal of Queen Elizabeth in films -

Film: Elizabeth -
a general overview on the use of Tudor cosmetics - including the dangers -

Queen Elizabeth had many scars covering her face due to small pox. She then had to wear a pale face to cover up these scars. The formula for this was by using ceruse - a mixture of white lead and vinegar onto the face which unfortunately was poisonous.  Authors warned the population against it as it turned the skin grey and shrivelled and to use formuas such as egg white or flour like the poor for the base. Once the whiteness had been applied many women would create false veins onto the skin usin facepaint however in the Elizabethan time was named fucus. Fucus came in a variety of reds and was mostly used onto the lips and cheeks. Fucus was created by using madder, cochineal and orchre based compounds to create the redness however vermilion was the most popular. This makeup was applied thickly to make a smoother face. However this also was poisonous and caused the skin to damage seriously. Plucking of the eyebrows was also applied to create the lift. Although this was not harmful or poisonous the removal was very painful.

Halloween Makeup -

With Halloween fastly approaching the class decided to take a step back at designing our Elizabethan makeup looks and just have some fun creating and experimenting with some crazy Halloween makeup looks.

I decided i wanted to re create this design as i loved the theme colour of the blue as it was more colourful and different to many different designs which were more bloody and disastrous instead of creating a character.

My final outcome -

Here is my final outcome done on myself for the Halloween makeup. I am very pleased with the way this look has came out as i feel i have followed the original design well. I have contoured the cheeks, forehead and chin by using darker shades of blue onto the outsides of the face to highlight the jaw line and bring out natural shadows of the face. The most challenging bit about this design was making sure everything was symmetrical to the other side of face where everything was the same size and the blending the same as the other side, I love the way this design has came out as i feel that it works well with my natural eye colour instead of using contact lenses. If i were to do this look on halloween i would include gems, diamonds and sequins around the face to make this much more eye catching and bold.

- 5 Skin Infections -

1) Impetigo -

Impetigo is a highly contagious skin infection. This infection is caused by staphylococcus aureus ( a type of bacteria). This infection is commonly found in children accounting for 70% cases. Impetigo starts looking like a sore spot then can appear like a scab. The skin is patchy and red and can be very itchy however wont be very sore.

2) Acne -

Acne is most commonly seen on teenagers.Acne is caused when the pores on your skin become blocked by oil, bacteria and dirt. Although Acne is not a life threatening disorder on severe occasions the skin can become very painful and cause a distress the patient. Acne can be very hard to get to remove as bacteria grows and spreads across the skin in the clogged up pore therefore the oil is unable to escape.

3) Ring worm -

Ring worm is an infectious skin infection creating a red ring onto the body caused by a fungus. The rash can appear anywhere across the body such as scalp, feet and groin being the most popular areas. This infection isn't life threatening or remotely serious and can be treated using various creams sold at your local drug store. However this infection can be very contagious and can spread across a wide range of people.

4) Ecthyma -

Ecthyma is a cutaneous infection where the skin is very dry, flakey and crusted with many scabby areas onto the skin. Ecthyma usually begins to look like a tender ulcer however gets crusty and scabby. This skin disease is most often seen in young children and the elderly. The two most common areas of the skin where you can find ecthyma is the face and legs. To remove the disease you are most commonly given penicillin. Although this disease is harmless it is best to remove the illness to prevent the disease from spreading. This infection can spread through bad hygiene such as footwear or clothing

5) Warts -

Warts are a very popular skin disease which can be seen on 10% of the population. Their are many different types of warts, hyperkeratonic which is the most popular is a flesh colored wart which can be seen in the image above. Warts can take up to 2-9 months to begin to appear onto the skin. To treat this disease application of acids such as trichloroacetic, salicylic and podophyllin can be applied for removal however if their is still a failure for these warts to dissapear you can use laser therapy or an injection with canidida antigen can be used. This skin infection is harmless and isn't harmful to the skin however can be contagious and easily spread around the body.

Contouring -

Within this lesson we learned about subtle and heavy contouring. This picture is an example of heavy contouring of the cheek bones. As you can see the jaw line is very defined. To create this look you use the darker shade of brown under the jawline and blend it out with a lighter shade of that colour (in this case a lighter brown). The lighter shade gradually blending towards the cheek and around the face. This will make your natural shadows of the face stand out much more. Contouring is used to shape the face and bring out the natural highlights and shadows of the face.

I practiced this look on my friends to perfect this technique. I also found this you tube video by Illamasqua very useful and help my understanding of using this technique.

Colour Theories -

- Analogous colour wheel -

Color Wheel with analogous color scheme

Analogous colour wheels are using the colours next to each of the wheel. As you can see green is the chosen colour within this wheel and the two colours on the side is what you would use to create an analogous design.

My analogous design -

- Complementary colour wheel -

Color Wheel with complementary color scheme

To find out which colour compliments each other you can look at the wheel to see which colour is opposite. When using complimentary colours in designing your outcomes are vibrant and bold. Within this picture you can see that green and red have been paired up with each other just like orange and blue.

My complimentary design -

- Achromatic colour wheel -

This colour scheme isn't colorful at all. It only consists of black, white and various shades of grey. Achromatic's definition is 'without colour'. Black and white don't get called colours instead they get called as shades.

My achromatic design -

- Monochromatic colour wheel -

Lastly we have Monochromatic. This is any shade, tint or colour of a hue. Monochromatic uses variations of lightness and saturation within a single colour such as red pictured above.

My monochromatic design -
