The Westmore family -

The Westmore family are very well known for their Hollywood makeup creations. Percival Harry Westmore born 1904-1970 was a well known character within the family. Perc worked on the hair and makeup of the film 'The private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex' which was based about Queen Elizabeth played by Bette Davis performed on bradway about the romance of Queen Elizabeth and Robert Devereux - 2nd earl of Essex. 


Perc was the makeup artist for Queen Elizabeth ( Bette Davis) during the film. She was the first acress to be seen as bald on screen however was only a couple inches of hair removal from the hair line which was shaved to appear bald under the wigs. Her eyebrows were also removed for the role as the director wanted the film to be historically correct.

George Westmore was a hairdresser who emigrated to America with the rest of the Westmore family to specialize in his making of wigs. George Westmore set up his own makeup studio after watching actors struggle to do their own makeup. George had 19 children, 6 of which also went into the makeup film business.

Bud Westmore son of George Westmore was a son of George who was also a Hollywood makeup artist. He work can be seen in over 450 movies and television shows, Some of these include - how to kill a mockingbird and A man of a thousand faces. The largest building within the universal studios is names after Bud for his successes.
