Contouring -

Within this lesson we learned about subtle and heavy contouring. This picture is an example of heavy contouring of the cheek bones. As you can see the jaw line is very defined. To create this look you use the darker shade of brown under the jawline and blend it out with a lighter shade of that colour (in this case a lighter brown). The lighter shade gradually blending towards the cheek and around the face. This will make your natural shadows of the face stand out much more. Contouring is used to shape the face and bring out the natural highlights and shadows of the face.

I practiced this look on my friends to perfect this technique. I also found this you tube video by Illamasqua very useful and help my understanding of using this technique.

Colour Theories -

- Analogous colour wheel -

Color Wheel with analogous color scheme

Analogous colour wheels are using the colours next to each of the wheel. As you can see green is the chosen colour within this wheel and the two colours on the side is what you would use to create an analogous design.

- Complementary colour wheel -

Color Wheel with complementary color scheme

To find out which colour compliments each other you can look at the wheel to see which colour is opposite. When using complimentary colours in designing your outcomes are vibrant and bold. Within this picture you can see that green and red have been paired up with each other just like orange and blue.

- Achromatic colour wheel -

This colour scheme isn't colorful at all. It only consists of black, white and various shades of grey. Achromatic's definition is 'without colour'. Black and white don't get called colours instead they get called as shades.

- Monochromatic colour wheel -

Lastly we have Monochromatic. This is any shade, tint or colour of a hue. Monochromatic uses variations of lightness and saturation within a single colour such as red pictured above.

Contemporary and traditional - Elizabethan Makeup -

Contemporary image -

Within this image you can easily see the representations of Queen Elizabeth in this image. For example the red hair, the hair shape, pale skin, removal of the eyebrows, pale white skin, red lips/ cheeks and the high neckline of the clothing. The hair has also been removed from the forehead representing the high forehead queen Elizabeth had. Although this image has a lot of representation to the Elizabethan era there are many distinctive ways its not. These includes the replacement of the eyebrows of the white lines going across the forehead around the eyes forming a heart shape. The scales across the forehead and eyes make this image a modern representation of the era.

Traditional image -

This image is traditional image within the Elizabethan era. The pale face, pink cheeks, red lips, high headline and removal of the eye brows were all very popular in the era. Padding has been included in the hair to create volume. Jewels, diamonds and pearls have been place in the hair much like the high class people had. The clothing and ruffles around the neck was also seen in many of Queen Elizabeth's portraits.

Project Brief -

Within this hair and makeup course i am hugely looking forward to learning a variety of new techniques and styles. Although i feel i am much more talented in hair i am looking forward to learning how to apply makeup in a mixture of ways to create different unique looks.

Whilst growing up i was very lucky to have a twin sister who i loved to experiment with on many different occasions and to this day. I found myself watching tutorials on the internet of all the different styles you can create.

'This make-up brand, that empowers people to express their individuality''Illamasqua is the product of a heady mix of influences. Its roots stem from the dark and illicit 1920s club scene, and combine a rich heritage in the manufacture of make-up for film and theatre. It also takes inspiration from members of the ‘alternative scenes’ for whom self-expression is paramount. Alternative cultures have always dared to be dramatic. They have an emotional attachment to making up. It’s an expression of their darker side, a release for their alter ego.Illamasqua is for the bolder person hiding inside all of us. It is an act and an attitude. A symbol of tolerance. A celebration of idiosyncrasies. A confident statement of self-ownership'

Mac -  best seller was a red lipstick

Benefit - Within benefit they had a shelf full of the most popular items recently

Laura Mercier - Concealer

Bobbi Brown - Within bobbi brown they had their top 10 products. These included a variety of blushers, lipsticks, mascaras and pallets.

Smash box -Photo finish foundation primer

Overall i had a lot of fun with this task and felt it was a great activity to bond with my classmates and discover which makeup brands they are most interested in,

Paper bag task -

For this task we were asked to create a look of how you would like to be seen in 5 years time.
Overall this task was enjoyable and a laugh with my class mates observing my other classmates final outcomes.
Evaluating my bag i feel that i could have been much more imaginable and creative when designing. I would like to imagine myself to be fashionable and presented myself well.
